Has working from home left you feeling a little lonely? Are you missing the company of your comrades? Is it just us?
The cure? These three conferences will let you get out and learn, network and develop at a high level this spring from the comfort of your own desk. We aimed to give you a varied, high-level selection that can provide true value to web professionals.
Cost: £179 – 230

For: Hardcore coders, product, experience and brand specialists
A conference full of stories from the front line and ideas from the ‘shop floor’ of web product design and development. This is one for those who have A, S, D and F permanently ingrained in the fingers of their left hand like a guitarist’s callouses.
Importantly, it’s a great place for learning things that actually make a difference to you in practice from day to day. The focus is less on achieving some kind of enlightenment in lifestyle or creating a better future together, and more on making today, tomorrow and next week a success for your web dev business.
The people behind the conference, 383 Project, say it started when they “squeezed 35 developers into a small room above a pub in Birmingham to share code and war stories from the interesting projects they were working on.”
Ten years later it still retains its focus on the heart of web development. Yet it has branched out into online product and experience, providing an industry-leading collection of insights and ideas, as well as some great networking opportunities.
Look out for:
Virgil Calejesan – UX Designer for SpaceX
Matt Davey – Chief Experience Officer for 1Password
Joel Beukelman – Senior Interaction Designer at Google
Niki Forecast – Senior Product Designer at What3Words
Cost: ~ £141 ($197)

For: Anyone who has a marketing-heavy offering or is looking to improve their capability in the area.
DigiMarCon is big with a broad focus across all of web marketing and many fellow attendees looking for new ways to get their businesses and products ‘out there’ online. For those with a well-developed marketing offering who can handle decent scale, this can be a goldmine of fresh leads from around the world.
It’s also a great place to improve your company’s own marketing, find some effective third-party help or reinforce your offerings across the online marketing spectrum.
You may well be worried that there won’t be enough material that is relevant to you. However, there are enough different events and speakers that you will be able to get your money’s worth by filling your time with relevant education and networking opportunities.
Be prepared for an event that’s big, busy and loud! If this kind of thing appeals to you, that’s great. If not, the slightly smaller and more web-dev-focused Canvas convention may be a better choice.
Look out for:
Rand Fishkin – Founder of Moz & SparkToro
Andy Crestodina – Cofounder of Orbit Media Studios
Joe Nguyen – Senior Vice President of Comscore
David Fallarme – Head of Marketing at HubSpot Asia
Cost: ~ £88 ($122)

For: Heavy networkers and those wanting to stay on the cutting edge
Collision is another big, yet surprisingly cheap convention. It’s one of the world’s biggest tech conferences. Importantly, it focuses on bringing people together to network effectively and create business opportunities, as well as learn.
There’s even a matchmaker-like app designed to bring attendees together with others who they may be able to make valuable connections with. As a company focused on getting leads for our clients (and ourselves), we’re extremely excited about this! With more than 40,000 attendees expected, you should find someone you can sync with.
It’s not just a networking event though. There are tons of masterclasses and workshops to improve your core and peripheral skills, as well as speeches from the creators and directors of some of the biggest websites and tech businesses on the planet. It’s a broad, multi-industry event, which could be a downer for people looking to network within their own sphere. On the other hand, having a networking app guiding you among some of the most powerful tech-heads on the planet can be valuable in terms of learning and leads.
Although the main event in April is huge and multi-practice, there are smaller national and industry-focused events throughout the year. One interesting one is the Collision Web Summit in Lisbon on November 1-4.
